Desert is Prime...A Trip to Some Ole Stomping Grounds

It has been a rainy desert season thus far with record breaking rain and flash floods. However, last weekend it looked good...So, we rallied Friday morning to some ole stomping grounds down in the Swell. We have probably been down to the Swell 50 plus times but this trip was aimed at the far southern reaches and to some places we haven't been to for a while.



We visited an old uranium mind site. Fun to explore and wonder...Tough life? I think so...









Lilly looking at some trash...or, should I say mining relics The area had plenty to see inside cabins and on the ground. Not much has changed since we were here last...



Louise making some dinner with a view. Great campsite! Pleasant evening temps made wandering around the mining site a blast.

We imagined it would have been damn loud to hear rocks sliding down all day long...



Packed up and ready to head to the next mining area.



We took a great hike to keep us cool. Yes, the Muddy Creek is muddy.

Yes we did...Funny though...Saw some ATV tracks all over some...Lucky Strike was in good shape. Found some old dynamite boxes too. Nice to see some of that stuff still there...

What wind? Yeah, I heard...The only weather that I can't stand is...WIND!

There was a little wind Saturday evening but it quickly died down...We tucked into the Reef and were protected nicely...

Looks like a good start to a nice trip.

We enjoyed the hike on the Muddy Creek. There are some mines in area with some old buildings that housed the miners. This is my favorite mining area. I love visiting the area because it reminds me of one of my favorite chapters in Abbey's Desert Solitaire. Crazy, love and murder story in the Utah desert.
We saw the splendor of Hidden Splendor.
