I am considering buying a 3rd gen 3.8 for my wife to drive but prefer a gray leather interior like my 98, but all I have seen are black or tan. The black is hotter in the sun and the tan tends to have dirty cracks.
did the 3rd gen ever come with gray leather interior?

Hehe, just kidding. In all my searching I never saw leather other than black or tan on a Gen. 3. 20th Anniversary editions had the gray faux wood trim. There's gray cloth, but even that is rare (at least in my searches).

I did look at google images earlier but wanted to confirm my observations via the forum. As for cloth we will likely never buy a vehicle unless it has leather seats.

IIRC only the XLS models had cloth (gray) interiors. All Limited and 03+ models had either black or tan leather that was based on the exterior color. Black is more common as the tan seems to only get paired with red, green and tan exterior colors. The most common colors ordered by the dealers were silver, white, black, and navy blue. All of those were standard with the black interior.
My Gen 3 is black leather
Black and Tan leather is all I've seen for gen 3's in leather. Cloth I've seen beige and grayish in pics though.
My white truck is tan. But it has the gold/tan cladding. Took forever to find one like that. Green truck is tan with the same gold/tan cladding. Not as much a fan of the cladding as I am the lighter interior color here in tx where it's hot.
