Diesel Conversions for TJ and/or JK.

Diggin on the CJ. The Merc motor is a good motor. I have some experience with them. If it has enough guts to power a 3/4 ton sprinter it should be good enough. Id be interested to hear more about your transmission choices. Last one i saw was for about 7G's complete from fan to bell housing. Dude even threw in the tank and the dash off the sprinter. 4bt is big clunky and heavy for what you get. But probably has more guts than the Jetta conversion. Ive seen the jetta conversion on the Sami's. I wonder if the TDI V6 would be any good?

I'd love to have that cotybuilt VW setup. I'm not really a VW fan, but that setup looks so clean it could be a factory option. Thats the kind of diesel conversion I would like. Also my understanding is that it is lighter than the TJ 4 cyl So you gain hp, torque and lighter weight all at the same time. Thats a win, win, win deal. Its too bad for the cost of most of these swaps I could buy a 2nd more economical vehicle. Like the whole Jetta the motor came out of. But if you can do all the labor yourself it might be different.

The block and everything attached is slightly lighter but when you add on the Coty mount, transmission adapter, and intercooler it is a wash to the 4cyl petrol. The biggest change in weight is if you have an old 4.2L like me you can double your fuel economy thus saving half the fuel weight to go the same distance. It also has the same power as the 4.2L yet the weight of the 2.4L strictly speaking to the engine...

But a corvette engine is also lighter than the 4.2L and gets better fuel economy.

These swaps don't make economic since for installing unless you place no value on your time and work through them on your own. They barely break even with fuel savings at the end of engine life if you pay a shop to install them. So better to earn interest on your money since you need it all up front anyways. I am planning it for the weight savings and the cool factor for others... But lets be honest it is pretty sweet.
