FYI, petitions only make a difference in matters of local government. Toyota will only listen to their own market research and what it identifies as the substantial market demand. A petition indicates some amount of desire, not demand, with the difference being the ability and willingness to pay the supplier's price.
Like everyone else here, I'd like nothing more than to be able to go down to the local Yota dealer and pick up a new diesel 70s series LC or a new diesel Hilux. But in this market where we have 2,734,102 miles of paved public roads and 90% of the trucks and SUVs that are built to be able to leave the payment only do so only 1% of their life, mall crawlers is what we collectively ask for and therefore what we get. Some might argue that a supply might drive the demand, but I don't think that Toyota is overlooking any such hidden deman, especially considering how money driven Toyota USA has been the last few years.
Signing such a petition may be fun, but it is unfortunately not productive.
