So I'm playing with my diff lock and have some questions
It is definately going into low..but does that mean its locked because no light ia coming on anywhere?

Is there supposed to be a light?
This is in a 95 disco 1

The transfer case lever gives you four forward options: HI unlocked, HI locked, LO unlocked, and LO locked. Follow the little diagram on your T-case lever. Canted to the right is unlocked. Canted to the left is locked.

I doubt that your difflock bulb is out.

You have to give some of them a pretty good yank to get the diff to lock. Seizing up from disuse is not unheard of.

And if it is seized what would need to be done? I don't want to break it to get it locked..so I just push forward and to the left correct?

How big of a job is to remove likage and clean and lubricate? I believe that's what needs to be done..it seems to only go into high or low but not lock

not exactly. wrong sequence. not "forward, then left" from high unlocked. But rather left, then forward or aft for locked or unlocked. I haven't looked at mine in a while but I'm pretty sure it's an "H" pattern rather than a square. but hell, now maybe it's a square. gentle finesse over some time is better than just plain forcing it though.

I used to use mine a lot. what a fun vehicle! just remember, without a rear diff lock, you can still get fully stuck without working too hard at it ;)

Also, in case you aren't trying this, moving slightly can help, like 2-3 mph coasting. I'm glad you posted this, mine has been engaged in a while and it is good to move through those every now and then.

You've got the pattern wrong. You move front to rear to go from low to high and right to left from unlocked to locked. Here is the pattern, like the one on the top of your shifter knob.

You will likely have to jiggle it around quite a bit to get it to slip into the correct gear but it will become much easier the more frequently you have it in low range.
