I have a small handheld garmin gps and I was going to download some cords from google maps and noticed google cords have more numbers than my garmin allow to install. I have heard of two different types of cords can someone explain the difference and which one is more popular to use...Thank you...Thomas

Im using the standard cords on my garmin unit. the ones that are in question are the one you get when you are on google maps they are not the same. they have one additional number. So I guess my question would be what is the name on the type of cords that google maps are using....Thanks.....Thomas

There are dozens of different coordinate displays and several common datums too. Post some examples of what yours is and what it needs to be to go into your GPS

I use MGRS co-ordinates on my gps because I can directly transfer them to my topos (Eastings and Northings if I remember my military training right) but most people use Latitude and Longitude. You may need to switch it on your gps.
MGRS is a literal measurement in metres from a specific zero while Lat and Long is a measurement in degrees.
I hope I explained it correctly because it has been almost 2 decades since I learned how to transfer co-ordinates from a topo to a gps and vice versa.

I am not positive that this is your answer, but it could be.

This wonderful little program converts the file formats of many popular GPS and Mapping programs.

Give it a try. I think this is what you are looking for.

Ok I am on track now I beleive as my Delorme GPS adds the extra 0 as well. it will just be there and I will round the next number up if it is a 5 or higher. Or I will just drop it off and not affect the next number if it is smaller.
Like when I go to Geocaching dot com and enter coordinates for one of my caches i will enter all of the numbers. there website does the math and eliminates that last digit.
It just dials you in a tad bit more precise
