Differential Lock button photo needed

I have a Montero (Pajero) V6 3500 1999 and it has a "Lock" button, but there's no "R/D" engraved on it, and the button isn't next to 12V plug. It is next to ashtray (beteen the parking brake and ashtray). When I turn it on, lights up a "LOCK" display in the dashboard...

Is this the R/D lock, or something else ?

Thanks a lot,

Eduardo,

If it triggers the lock light, then it's probably the right button and perhaps either the previous owner moved it or Mitsubishi used a different layout on the Montero/Pajero in your country.

But I can confirm on vehicles in the US the differential lock button is usually located in the center dash area in front of the hand brake and to the left of & in front of both the transmission & transfer case shifters.

This picture shows the switch next to the exposed 12v socket. http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=51517&d=1294269988

Hi Ray,

I saw this picture and it is pretty much like mine, except mine has wood also in steering wheel, a button to control the eletric antenna (half-way or full opened), Driver's airbag, those 3 gauges are: compass, inclinometer and barometer. And, of course, the lock button.

I'll take a picture of mine, just to compare the differences between countries... :D

I'll try to find the owner's manual to find what it is. I'm praying to be the R/D lock ! :wings:

Thanks,

Eduardo

That has both a driver and passenger air bag but no wood in the steering wheel or a fancy antenna control.

On our SR models in the USA come with an oil temp gauge and a battery volt meter, and a compass with an external temperature gauge.

To doublecheck if the locker is working, turn it on, then drive @ 5-15mph with the windows open in a safe area (parking lot or street) and make tight turn. You will hear the tires squeal as they slip during the turn if the locker engages.

No that's your snow button. Locks the tranny in second gear so you won't spend the tires.

Yeah on my 96 Montero (US model) that's a transmission power, normal & hold button. Power changes the transmission shifting curve to be more aggressive and hold, starts the transmission in 2nd which is good for reducing slippage when starting off in snow/ice, however it won't help you much, once you're already moving.:ylsmoke:
