Disco Die's on way to expo :(

Well seem's my Disco gave its last heartbeat yesterday just outside Scottsdale. My mother, bless her heart, drove the rover down to meet me in Arizona for Expo 2011. As I boarded my flight from Honolulu with all my earthly possessions (as I'm moving back to the mainland from da islands) I got a call she had to have it towed to the Dealership.

Seems the heating core gave out causing some overheating and there now asking $2500 for heating core and another $2500 for head gaskets which took a beating. Even if I had the work done (as I don't have the time, tools, or knowledge to do it myself) they couldn't get the car done till Wednesday! As the car is a 2000 disco with her fair share of hard love knocks the repair bills are not worth it.

Now the question is what to do with a dead rover in AZ with the title in Colorado? I'm looking for any suggestion, thinking about finding a local buyer, or donating to a charity.

So now as an independent travel, I'll be having my mother drop me off at expo every morning (she's getting a kick out of that).

Get involved with your local LR club, find a used engine and get some beer and pizza and have a Wrench-a-thon!

The head gasket is easy, as long as the head itself is undamaged. The tricky job is the heater matrix, as this requires the entire interior dash to be removed, which requires removal of the centre console, ABS bags and steering wheel - no small job. Of course, if you don't need the heater and only use it for cool air, then you can just run a bypass hose between the two engine hose connections and bypass the heater outright, costing just a few dollars for a length of 5/8" hose...

What Snagger says is a temporary option for sure if you are in Colorado- but it would allow you to get the head gaskets repaired, and then save money to do the heater until September or October.

Just a thought.
I think lots of us decide at some point and time, that we like our particular truck way more than the value of the truck dictates. In other words, ... we are willing to spend more on the truck than it is worth, because the truck brings us great enjoyment.

You don't need a dealer for a head gasket

just your local mechanic with some buic experience, and the parts

Dweb have a host of independant people who do both work on LR's and also deal in spares.....inc engines

A straight swap is an easy 1 day job for two and a engine lift.

5K is about market value for a running truck........
