Good question !
Right out of the box, with an auto trans and 265/70R16 SSRs (31.5" OD) on NATO wheels (heavy) with stock 3.54 gears, we easily saw 24MPG. Later, went to Sals axles front and rear, 4.56 gears and 35x10.50R16 SSRs (really heavy - rotating the tires is no fun), so it dropped to 20MPG, sometimes 21...
Mileage would be much better with a manual trans and sticking with something like a 255/85R16 tire, even a 235/85R16.

Not bad though. How much lift? And vehicle weight? Roof Rack?
That's what I was wondering. Lots of people report high 20's with diesel LR's, but that's on fairly stock vehicles, and European diesel fuel.
For sure, a V8 Disco with the same build would probably get 10mpg.

Only a 2" RTE lift, but with the wheel openings "enhanced."
I don't have the weight, right now (~4500+ lbs, perhaps?). Yes, on the roof rack (Hannibal, see the For Sale section).
As for a V8 in this arrangement, 10mpg is likely a bit optimistic...

You must be way over 4500. Curb weight from the factory is 4600lbs, which is probably optimistic. Then just the diesel is 2-300lbs more than the V8? (The V8 is incredibly light). Then the tires, axle, rack, RTT... has to add up to something like 500lbs. Bumpers?
I can get 18mpg out of my V8 Disco with lift, 31's, rack and heavy bumpers. Hoping I can get 28 with a diesel in it.

Probably a bit over OE curb weight - never weighed it.
RTE custom on the front and a TJM bumper on the rear.
That's good mileage you are getting ! I recall getting 19.5 with the V8, blasting up to the UP, but that was stock and a Borla exhaust.
Regardless, going conservatively will yield the best MPG.

I posted several days ago about a member of Texas Rovers who was offered a diesel replacement for his 4.6 that suffered an oil pump failure. Yesterday I personally checked this story with this member (which I should have done before I posted) and found out whlist the engine failure part was correct the offer of the diesel engine was not.
Apparently this story sprang out from a “what if?” conversation around the campfire, and as these stories do after several tellings it became fact within the Club.
I sincerely apologize for passing this “true story” along.
