DIY Cargo Drawers

Those African Outback cargo drawers are pretty awesome, but the purchase price would be about half the value of my whole vehicle. This weekend I broke out the skil saw and did my own take on the theme with 3/4" plywood and takeoff bins from our camping trailer. Here's the result:

Those "speed holes" are worth about 9 pounds, and the top deck will get tie down points for a bungee net to secure light fluffy stuff. The right side of the cargo area will remain full height for taller stuff.

I'll be installing anchor points in the rear, and the whole shebang will be secured with 4 turnbuckles. Oh, and carpeted to match the rest of the interior. More details here: http://mandamus.typepad.com/onefullplate/

That's a nice, simple solution. I love it!

Wonder if we shouldn't have a separate area for stuff like this. Call it "Cheap tricks" or something like that. Like my cheapo seat covers and how I modified them to fit my 2/3 - 1/3 bench seat, that sort of thing....

Yeah, we could call it "Cheap solutions for a tenth the price, that work 2/3's as well." Bah ha ha ha ha. I crack myself up.

 The speed holes make it!

Ya think? I was going to cover them up with carpet, but maybe it would look cool to cut the carpet around them. Thanks for the input.

"Speed Hole" Idea: Stolen

:hehe:

I used a tupperware container as a template to keep the hole size consistent. You can't really tell in the photo above, but the cabinet slopes down at the rear to match the rear seat back angle. One of the holes at the top-rear is slightly smaller to account for the shorter distance.
