Well..some of you may have heard that i bougth a heated seat kit from ebay? It was $170 to my door. The heating system in my 86 pickup isnt the best...and well, heated seats ar just great for winter trail rides and those cold days.:roost:
I must say..MAN!!! This is a well put together kit. Very easy to understand. Here are some pictures of what i pulled out of the box.

^ You can see two pads, one for th ebottom and one for the top. The wiring was packed real nice. It has a built in fuse, and thermometer. IF the seats were to function wrong or way overheat, the thermometer shuts them off.
Here is a picture of the switches the Kit came with

Pretty nice switches IMHO. Good enough for the interior of the 86 ;-)
Below is a picture of where i mounted the driver/passenger switch. SOrry the interior is a MESS....its all torn apart from the seat install and radio install.

I got both units installed into the seats, and the wires 75% ran through the truck. Tomorrow, all thats left to do is run the wires from each kit through the fire wall to the battery. Then put a conector on and hook it upto the battery..and ground them. O then sit down and enjoy a warmed *** :)
And just to whore...a picture of the seats the heaters are going in..

Looks like a good project. Keep us informed on how they work out. Where exactly did you place the heating pads? Does the leather on your seats peel up off from the pad underneath?

My friends truck came with heated seats. I believe his truck also has a two battery system which was specifically put in (by the manufacturer) for powering the seats. Did the instructions say anything about upgrading to a beefier battery? Do you know how much juice (watts) they use?

Have any pics of peeling the seats to install the heaters? I would love to see that part. I have considered this for my fj40 when the top is off and it is brisk at night but nice during the day.

Thanks!

the seats I have are APC racing seats. The back cushion is sown onto the seat at the top, and velcroed at the bottom. If you lift it up, you will see that the leather is just a skin over the padding, and is velcroed. Kind of like a pouch, if that makes sence? SO I opened the velcroe and slid the heater pad between the leather and foam...stick it all back together and you cant even feel it in there! For the bottoms, the leather is sown in at the front and back. BUT the sides of the leather are vecroed under the cushion. SO I undid the velcro and slid the heat pad between the leather and cushion...then reinstalled everthing. Again, you cant feel the pads on the top or bottom. On stock seats, this would be MUCH harder to do. I hope that made sence? Its late and my mind isnt working. I'll take pictures of it all tomorrow
As far as power...this is what they suck up.
# Wattage: 24~30 Watts per Pad, 48~60 Watts per seat. Current Draw: 4 Amps on Low Heat Setting and 5 Amps on High Setting per Seat.

sorry...its hard to get pictures of how i put the heating pads in the seat..without taking all the wires out. Anyway, i got the wiring all done today, and these things are AWSOME! Within 5 minutes they are super hot, and i had to switch to the low setting. Deffinatley using these in other cars of mine.
