Here is my attempt to emulate the likes of the Batwing, Alucab etc. I lust after them in my heart but can't convince HRH (Her Royal Highness) that we need to drop $1000.00 on an awning. Remember, the only way I was able to convince her to let me install front and rear lockers was to blow the front diff on Kane Creek Canyon last fall.
But I digress.
Here are pics of my efforts. Cost was $50.00 and a package of elk steaks and an elk roast- $50 for two 10' sections of galvanized 1/2 pipe, a 12x12 drop cloth and some miscellaneous brackets, bolts etc. and the elk for a friend who sewed the pockets into the drop cloth. Works well in winds strong enough that one of the Hobies almost had a hull out of the water.
Not super large, but certainly big enough for the two of us and Mac the dog.
Takes 1.5 minutes to set up and about the same to put away.
Can drive with it up so long as I go slowly- makes it easy to keep the shade where we want it.
I can't figure out how to rotate the first pics- anyone out there know how?
