First let me say this is the first time I've tried starting a thread using tapatalk so if I screw this up please forgive me.
That said, I've been looking at RTT, racks and bed caps for a while now coming up with various ideas, solutions and new problems as I go. One of the big problems I'm running into is the expense of the RTT and having a place to store it while not in use.
So today while bored at work I had an idea I want to run past you. My idea is to use a ladder rack as the base for a rack build. They are plentiful and cheap on Craigslist. One that extends close to the windshield would be ideal. To that would attach a floor and a pop and a roof of sorts, hinged at the windshield end with a couple folding supports. Its hard to explain so I'm attaching a quick drawing and a model that I whipped up in the last few minutes of my lunch break today. Don't laugh:
You have to imagine hinges/supports and canvas on both sides. The door would be accessed from the tailgate side with a small ladder.
What do you think? I'm going to make a better model tonight if I get a chance.
