Do a trail with Mark - Superior, Arizona 1/13/2007

Hey boys and girls . . . come drive a trail with me this Saturday. This will be pretty short, so I'm starting in the afternoon. Likely be hitting pavement just as it gets dark. Trail starts off of U.S. 60 east of Superior. This is not the standard approach to Devil's Canyon - we're undertaking an exploratory route. :088:

Time: 12:30pm, this Saturday (1/13/2007)

Place: Chevron, US 60 and Goldfield (last exit before the 60 curves southeast out of Apache Junction)

Comm: CB - 4; 2M - 146.460

Why: Exploratory route. We're losing access to Devil's Canyon and Hackberry Creek due to the mine. However, this road (FR 2466 in the Tonto National Forest) is on the east side of Devil's Canyon. While I've driven this one, I did not take it to the end. The end, according to maps, should be directly across Devil's Canyon from Hackberry Creek. We'll get to see Devil's Canyon and all those incredible rock spires from the other side. Map is attached.

The Trail: Very easy. I've led a green driver in a stock Xterra through here. It's about a level and a half "up" the scale from a graded road. But it's cool. Some switchbacks, some hills, a handful of rocky patches. Plus, a constant view of Devil's Canyon. Here's one of the toughest parts:

So . . . who's in?

Cheers,
Mark

I have Ellesha this weekend, but it does sound like fun. Put me down as a maybe and I'll let you know this week.

I might bring the 'lil GS up, temperature depending. Earlier would be better for me too, it gets cold quick once the sun goes down.:bike_rider:

ugh. Just looked at the forcast for Sat., 53 for a high in Tucson...meaning it will be colder up there....so riding home 100+ miles after dark, in sub-40 degree temps ain't workin for my panzy ******.

Well, shux.

The afternoon is what works for me. And it's all about me!

One of the high points is going to be eating some (very warm) tasty pizza at Eduardo's in Superior when we're done. That could keep you some company on the ride back to Tucson Brian. :campfire: That would be REALLY fun to have that GS along.

Pscott, uh, this "should" only take us about 4-5 hours round trip.

For the record, if you wish to negotiate my terms above I suggest counter-offering with something specific. Sunday morning might be a better starting point. :coffeedrink:

I'd have to think about Sunday morning. It would be better for me...but this isn't about me... it's about you - you - you - you - usually (but occasionally.....).

Sunday has a high of 51 in Superior. The only thing I don't like about that is that I have to wear so much gear to stay warm, and I don't enjoy the ride nearly as much. Kind of like when I put the doors on the jeep...I'm just another schlub on the road trying to get somewhere. Without the doors and windows in the jeep (or the wind/rain proof liners in my gear)...the wind sets you free. It calms your mind, soothes the soul and it mends your heart...life is grand. Few things in life placate virtually every ill in life like the wind rushing over your body as you head down that lonely road....

dammit, now I gotta go for a ride.

If you guys end up going on Sunday morning, I'll see if I can get my lazy butt out of bed early enough to be there...but don't change the plans just for me.

Well, I have a b-day party for some triplets that we need to go to in the afternoon of Saturday at 4pm or so. Sunday I leave midday for Vegas on a work trip to be taunted by craps tables and sunny pools calling my name while I waste away for 3 days inside 16 hour-long meetings tantamount to torture.

Let me run it by the CEO tonight? and ask also you guys if you think having kids on the trail with you would destroy your time. Mark & Wil, considering your near future you may wish to avoid all children for the remaining weeks....:)

Ah yes, Eduardo's. After reading some wise man's words about how to get rich quick, I finally got around to checking out Eduardo's my last time through Superior. Good stuff. There is also a little Mexican joint a couple blocks from Eduardo's that I want to check out.

Count me in Stephens.

HA! Cool. Pizza at Eds and tequila at the Mexican place? We'll play that part by ear. The Mexican food at Los Hermanos is fantastic, too. And, um... they have a bar there.

Glad you're in Seth. Sweet.

Pscott, if you want to bring the kids that's fine by me, they're ridin' in your vehicle; if Aaron makes it, he'll have Ellesha. Well, if the cold weather didn't get him, it the kids that will definately scare GT now. :punk03:

Oh yeah, I updated the first post with communications info.

So I think Seth is a definate. Wil and Aaron seem to by the strongest maybes that I can count on turning into attendees. Pscott, which side of the line are you on?

I have two other buddies (driving Wranglers) who want to come along as well.

This should be fun. :smiley_drive:

PS - KC, it would be inappropriate to acknowledge that cruel joke of your's with one of these smilies :xxrotflma
