Do any other seats fit 84-96 XJ's

Are there any other seats that the brackets or the seat itself will fit into the brackets of a Jeep 84-96.

Heres the thing, I just want seats that are not vinyl because my butt melts in them. What year jeep seats or ANYTHING can fit into either my brackets or mount straight into my 88 Jeep XJ.

My brackets are fine too so I would not be opposed to taking my seats off of those, but I cannot fab seats into mine...no skill or enough time to do so. But I would love to hear recommendations because my t-shirts are getting sweat stains worse then an Alabama Armpit.

I believe similar year grand cherokee seats bolt right in. Check on NAXJA. I've been meaning to do the full grand cherokee seat swap, with both front buckets, and the 60/40 split rear. I just need to buy seats. :) Im not sure about any other, but im sure someone else on here will have some more answers.

There is a write up for installing ZJ seats into an XJ that a guy did a few days ago. Basically the fronts just use the bases for the XJ seats and the ZJ seats bolt up to them. The rear seat bottom needs a bit of trimming but its still bolt in.

I hate to now sound biased but I would like to not get the ZJ powered seats. I am a weight weenie in my jeep, and also hate electrical. unless ZJ's had cloth seats without power?

And what about this trimming? Will the 97 + XJ's fit in besides this here "trimming"? And how involved is it?

I found some pristine seats in a 99 xj and swapped them into my 96. I had to fab up some bracket mounts because the original brackets dotn line up with the original holes. Ill try to scrounge up some pictures later.

In an XJ prior to 95 your pretty much stuck with any 84-94 XJ seat for a bolt in swap.

In 95 the XJ seat mounts were changed and allow ZJ/WJ seats to be bolted directly to the 95+ XJ bases. Earlier models would require modification, which doesnt look very difficult if you can drill and weld some angle iron in.

ZJ's and WJ's were available in cloth and manual.

My first "fab" project on my Toyota was taking a pair of bucket seats out of a Subaru, getting some flat bar stock, bending it in a vise, drilling holes with an electric drill in the bar stock to match the holes in the floor boards of the Toyota, drilling holes through the bar stock into the seats, and then bolting everything together. :victory:

The bug had bit... And lead to welders, presses, and all sorts of fab tools! :Mechanic:

I've got a '98 XJ and would love to get some newer seats in it. Mine, especially the driver's seat, are feeling their age, and the "cushion" feeling is starting to go.
Good to hear the ZJ and WJ seats should pretty much bolt up, it would be great to also a split/fold rear bench!

I think I'll check ebay and see whats out there. Thanks for sharing this info!

^^^This.

I know for a fact my 96 seats wont fit in a 94, and vice versa without modifications to the bracketry.

The motors and seat heaters and stuff are all removeable if that is all you can find. Then when you take them out pop them up for sale on ebay or NAXJA because I'm sure someone somewhere will be looking for a cheap replacement.

Getting some...

Trim. IIRC the "trimming" is extremely minimal! There is a small issue with the way the cover is made that may (or may not?) interfere with the slider mechinism. Basically you add a small slit to allow it to pass by without snagging the fabric. If your seats are manual in the XJ, run those. If you find some fabric seats from a GC just pull the seats and leave the motorized crap in the donor...prob doesn't work anyway and less to carry to the checkout!:wings:

If you are looking for seats that are not vinyl so that your butt won't melt, why not just get some seat covers?
