Dodge/Ram 2500 5.7 gas known problems/fixes?

Looking at Dodges/Rams with the 5.7 gas. RCLB

Any major problems or things to look for?

Some reading they need some steering/perhaps suspension fixes with the Cummins, but with the 5.7 is there a need?

Not interested in the diesel...I won't be doing any heavy towing.

Thanks in advance.

i have a ram RCLB hemi 5spd. its got 130k on it and i have replaced balljoints and unit bearings at 100k, just upgraded the steering to the 08-12 style a few weeks ago, replaced 16 spark plugs around 100k, alternator around 90k.I put a clutch in it about 5k ago, the pilot bearing was gone, so i just replaced everything while i was in there. so far its been a great truck, mostly just basic maintenance stuff. i think the gassers dont wear front end parts as fast as the diesels, but ive got 37's and a winch on my truck and im not that nice to it ( the hemi trucks jump pretty nice, the motor is behind the front axle) i keep thinking about getting rid of it because we just had a kid and the reg cab isnt ideal for that, but it is a pretty versatile machine, it replaced a 97 12v 5spd and a 99 TJ with ome suspension, 35's, and locked f/r. with lockers and decent suspension the big truck goes some pretty impressive places if you don't care about paint.

Thanks for all the info.

So the gas with a manual trans isn't a Unicorn? I found an 07 with a 6 speed....not sure if it was a one off special order or what.

Not a unicorn,Dodge still puts manual transmissions in their trucks.

I tried building one on the their website, it wouldn't me do it.

Can you get it with the 6.4?

@leelikesbikes: what suspension/wheels are you running for the 37's?

im running stock chrome steels, 8" wide and carli springs bilstein shocks. the stock offset works best for small lift/big tires. there are definitely more autos than manuals, it took some looking for me, but they are out there. what year range/mileage are you looking for?

I just tried to build one,it appears you have to go diesel to get a manual trans.I don't know when they stopped putting a manual in a gasser,my 97 V10 had a manual. One of the things that kept me looking at Ram was getting a manual,I did eventually get an auto instead.
I think the small Ram diesel is only available with an auto too...if you want a manual better get it while you can.
