Donaldson topspin pre cleaner help?

Ok I have spent the last 2 days searching and I think I know which pre cleaner I need but I would like some confirmation. So I found a cfm calculator from another pre cleaner vender http://www.centriprecleaner.com/themes/centriprecleaner/cfm-calculator.htm but not sure it's formulas are the same for the topspin but I think they are and here is the link to there formula chart at the bottom of the page http://www.centriprecleaner.com/cfmspecs.html so acording to the info, my truck has a chevy 5.3 =327cid and idle is around 600rpm so slow speed 4low crawling would be around 1100rpm so there chart says at 1100rpm My cfm use is right at 83.26 cfm and when I'm going 70 on the highway on my way to work I'm at 2000rpm so my cfm use is 151.38 cfm but when I floor it to pull out in traffic or just playing the truck shifts around 5600rpm so the cfm use then would be some where around 344-370 cfm because there formula does not show up over 4000 rpm

Ok with all that part # H002437 It has a 3" inlet and that's the size tube I was planing to make the snorkel out of and it cfm range is 90-200 cfm so slow speed rpms and normal driving rpms I should be good but when I floor it is it going to choke the truck out or does the pre cleaner just stop being efficient

Then the next pre cleaner they have that's got a 3" inlet is part # H002425 and it's cfm range is 200-450 so it would be good at high speeds but would it not work at low rpms

Here is the link to the topspin http://www.donaldson.com/en/engine/support/datalibrary/000207.pdf

I know it's a jumble of info but I hope someone who has gone through the same thing will see this thread and offer there opinion on which one to get and why

Thanks Kenny

I have a 2.8 ltr turbodiesel with 3" raised air intake with donaldson precleaner, and I have no issues. Gas engines use much less air than diesel. I can't imaging you needing more than 3". it's on dirt and gravel roads where other vehicles are choking the air with dust that you need a pre-cleaner. that's going to be going around 30-40mph most likely. what you don't want is to be restricted at highway speeds. get the biggest 3" you can.

Remember that donaldson makes precleaner for a wide ranging industrial market, from propane powered forklifts to large mining equipment.

Look at your factory air intake. Measure the most restrictive opening and buy something about the same size.

have you considered an Outerwears prefilter for dust control? very happy with mine on my powerstroke, all the dust sits on the outside of the cover and shakes off as you are going down the road. i am on a dirtroad everyday out here.

not mine by the way, this is on a cummins. outerwears does have custom sizes and filters available as well.

The outerwear are nice and was looking at them but my air box uses a flat type filter

I'm looking at the top spin just because it will help the filter better it's not super dusty out here by me but I'm building the snorkel to keep water out and as I know the ram heads work I don't like the look as much as a bowl type pre cleaner and thought if I'm going to do something like that I might as well get something that is self cleaning

And the smallest part of my air intake is 3.25" at the air intake before the stock air box going through the fender

IMHO, a 4" id pre-cleaner for your small block, bigger is better even when adapted to smaller id inlet , my 400 cid diesel under boost requires 5" min as not to restrict engines volumetric efficiency (VE) under full boost.
