Dormobile-style seating in a JKU?

I'm currently considering a JK Unlimited with a Phoenix Pulse pop-up as my daily driver and camping rig. I've considered many options and gone back to the drawing board a few times. For my DD purposes, I'll need seating for 4. For camping, it will be me and the wife plus our 75lb Ridgeback. If possible, I would like to have a top-down sleeping option for extreme weather conditions.

Which leads me to my question:

Has anyone attempted to put Land Rover Dormobile-style front & rear bucket seats into an Unlimited? They fold down into single beds over 6' long. The dimensions and setup seem similar enough that you could fabricate mounts for the Dormobile seats. There is a company in the UK making new seats for both new and old Dormobile applications (picture below).

It looks like they mount on a flat surface level with where they will lay flat. For the rear seats, I am envisioning a wooden base extending from the cargo floor about halfway into the passenger compartment. Enough to still have legroom, but also provide the mounting surface these seats need. It would even provide room under the base for storage (I'm thinking a Front Runner 10-gallon footwell water tank). For the front seats, you could just build an underseat storage box for them to sit on.

It's not a cheap option and would require plenty of work, but I think it might make for a perfect daily driver/camping rig. Seating and sleeping for 4 in a Jeep!

It might be tough. The wheel wells on the unlimited's are right behind the rear seats. There is no room to recline the rear seat even if it were an option.

Good idea
Where do the other 2 people sleep? Up Top?

Nash Airliner car

In 1936, Nash introduced the "Bed-In-A-Car" feature,

.. It was in this year Nash Motors introduced convertible "sleeping car" ...
Yes, the Phoenix Pulse camper has an inflatable queen mattress up top. 2 top, 2 bottom sleeping.

It would seriously limit cargo space, but I'm used to traveling light. I just have to convince the wife she could make it a week with just one bag :sombrero:

Obviously, you have already been told that there is no room to recline the seats. However, just in case anyone else is considering the option for other platforms, seats that recline all the way like that are fairly common. I know that my 90s Montero and my CRVs did that. Of course, the rear seat is a bench but the idea is the same. Even if the back seat couldn't recline all the way, you could still put kids down there if the front seats did lay completely flat.

Another option, at least for kids, could be the side-to-side cots that VW put in some busses like this:

The kits are available aftermarket and could be installed with some mods I'm sure.
