#down.for.adventure's 2018 4Runner SR5 4x4

Just added another new member to the family this year. With a new baby the wife wanted a bigger SUV than the Rav4. Didn't expect to walk out with a 2018 after looking at a a few used ones, it was a better deal to go new. Especially since I've been known to keep vehicles for quite a while. Not to mention that Barcelona red just pops. We went into this knowing that when this is paid off it will become my vehicle to do as I please and she get's what ever she wants. Sure I would have liked a TRD Off Road or a Used Trail with the Locker but with her daily driving it and then being used as our family adventure mobile, the 4x4 will be just fine for now and I can throw lockers and other stuff on as we go or when I get it.

As for now it will be a mild build. We had a baby in January with Down Syndrome. My wife and I both agreed that our biggest goal with him was to get out and see great things. So for the next little bit we are looking at small day trips or weekends and a hotel. One of the reasons the 4runner was her choice of vehicle. We love the beach and the North Padre/Corpus Christi/Port A. area, so racks for Surfboards, Awnings, fishing gear, on board air and other basic stuff will be it for now. I will be researching the hell out of where I want to go as far as suspension in the long run. I still have the First Gen Tundra DC for more rugged wheeling and hauling. I sucked at keeping that page updated so I deleted it and will prob add it to this maybe. As well as our adventures.

If anyone has any good 5th gen pages/builds, please feel free to share. I've always liked them but have never had one have followed more Tacoma and Tundra builds since it's what I've had.Barcelonared4runner.jpg

Congrats on your two additions this year. I just bought a 2012 4Runner, and am similarly looking for ideas and great build threads. Post your progress and good luck!

Had some nice weather this weekend and decided to go out some miles on the new rig. Decided to head up to the Sam Houston National Forest and see if we can get into some light trails. Mainly wanted to get away for a few hours and get out of the city and traffic and get a feel for the vehicle.

Stopped at a trail head and did a short hike with the little one to see how he did in the carrier. But more for me to see how much wear and tear on me it was lugging him around and up and down.

Here's a few pics from the day. Go figure the first rig we see is a Barcelona Red TRD Pro. There were a few other built rigs there too. I'm still super happy with our SR5 though. So far I love it. A few pics are too big to add from my phone so I'll have to update the rest when I get to a computer20180415_140715.jpgIMG_20180415_163648_798.jpg20180415_140839.jpgIMG_20180415_214640_526.jpg20180415_152025.jpg

Well I really suck at updating this stuff. Need to get more on the ball.

It's been over a year since I've updated anything. The 4Runner is still stock. Ive got some suspension in the garage for it but no huge rush to put on in this Texas heat. We did get a roof top tent for it to make sleeping more comfortable for mom and baby. Baby is a year and a half now. I always rolled my eyes at RTT's after sleeping in the bed of the truck for so long but I gotta admit it's pretty nice. When it's cool at least. This heat I cant do it. Speaking of the truck. It's finally getting somewhere as far as a build goes. I'll make that part of my next post.

But the stock 4Runner is working great for our needs. Most trips are running beaches to hang out and/or fish. Lots of day trips. This year we've hit up quite a bit of the Texas Coast. Galveston, Boliver peninsula, Follets Island (Surfside Beach), Matagorda, Mustang Island and Padre Island National Seashore. I have an idea for a 3-4 day entire TX coast run hitting or driving through all the coastal towns from pretty much Louisiana to South Padre. So have been doing day trips to work out the logistics.

The little one is an absolute trooper and down for whatever. Here is a picture dump of some of those trips. I've got some other things going on that I will update later. 20190616_060538.jpgIMG_20190617_095948_386.jpg20190406_153843.jpg20190707_134315.jpgIMG_20190701_201002_366.jpgIMG_20190701_201002_365.jpgIMG_20190714_111244_462.jpg20190615_232723.jpg20190615_223241.jpg

It seems like once a year I come around and say I need to update this more. Well here I am again.

Lots has happened since my last update. I'll have to go back and fill that in when I get time. But since then, the 4Runner is now mine. We sold the first ten Tundra and got the wife something a little bigger having another kiddo. I want to update this though to keep track of the build and trips but for now I'll just drop some pictures from the weekend Matagorda trip.
