I have 2 Odyssey (PC1700 and PC2250) and 3 Sears Platinum (Odyssey PC-2150/Group 31) batteries and a Odyssey OMAX-50-3 charger.
I usually keep one of the 2150s in the Toyota Sequoia for times when I put the ARB 50 in it. The Toyota does the usual Toyota job of not enough charge to keep the Odysseys fully charged and I periodically pull the battery down to 10 volts and recharge with the Odyssey charger per the Odyssey recovery document. The Sequoia has a BlueSea ACR with 2 gage wire to a Anderson SB350 at the rear bumper for connection to the below trailer.
I also have a trailer with a WFCO 8955 converter charger. It does not do well keeping the Odysseys fully charged either. I am planning on replacing the WFCO power unit with an IOTA DLS-55 with an IQ-AGM module.
BUT, the Odysseys are all getting old (and I have mis-treated them too) so I am thinking of a Trojan T-1275 FLA with the iota and the IQ4 module on the trailer instead of the odyssey. I cannot fit 2 Group31s at the trailer tongue location, and I do not like the idea of 150 pounds of battery weight there either. The T-1275 gives me 150 AH (gross) with about 85 pounds, and a bit over 1/2 the cost of the aodyssey. The Iota is the same, just a different plug in module. I just no longer have any FLA tools (hydrometer, thermometer, battery straps, charger, etc.) and I have enjoyed no acid mess nor holes in my jeans. Also, rotating the same size group 31s into the Sequoia, trailer, and a spare in the rear floorboard has been great.
Any thoughts? I really want to stay clear of the cost of LiFePo4 and the associated “accessories”.
Should I get the Odyssey or the FLA Trojan?
TIA
