Had the opportunity to get a prototype diff cover from David at DT ProFab. It's made from 1/4" laser cut plate, bent to shape, TIG welded to a 3/8" flange, and then ground on a flywheel grinder. This one is powder coated - not sure if the production models will be, or if you will have a choice of coated or raw steel. The added depth will increase oil capacity some - not sure exactly how much yet, but when I get the install done, I'll add that info to this post. The covers are also being built for the 11.5" rearend as well. I dont' think they have them on the website yet, but you can e-mail or call them at the shop. http://www.dtprofab.com/
The cover uses a 1/2" NPT for a drain plug, a 3/4" NPT plug for a filler plug. I ordered a 1/2" socket head magnetic plug for the drain, a square head 3/4" magnetic plug for the filler from http://www.magneticdrainplug.com/. The recessed socket plug will prevent it from being turned by an impact on a rock or other trail debris like crossing a downed log. If I'm lucky, the plugs will be here next week so I can get the install done over the New Year break.
And before someone asks,
Is it bullet proof?
No, it's mild steel 0.250 plate w/ a 0.375 thick flange.
Is it a hell of a lot stouter than the OEM cover?
Yes it is.
How much does it cost?
I don't know. :sombrero:
