dual batteries in 2nd gen 4runner?

anyone know of a tray/bracket setup for mounting dual batteries in a 95 4runner? similar to the Slee unit for cruisers.

I'd like to get a National Luna set up and would be interested to see how others have arranged their batteries under hood.

The bay on 1st and second are nearly identical. No room in stock configuration for a second battery.

I have seen some rerouting of the intake with the use of a FIPK Cone style filter to get the stock air box gone to allow a battery there. The down side is sucking hot under hood air if you don't rig up a snorkel.

If you have the factory swinging spare tire carrier on the back you could mount a battery behind the axle in the space where the under body spare went. That's what I plan to do once I build a spare tire carrier. I feel its a better option then adding another 50lb to the front especially if you have a winch on the front.

Here is a link to a site where the owner moved the batteries to the underside of the truck opposite the fuel tank.

I'm having these same thoughts. Under the hood, there's no obvious place.

The intake swap that Grim mentions doesn't quite get you there cleanly on a 22R-E. The AFM is now in the old battery location and the air box location is where the battery goes. Reasoning behind this is to make the air path shorter for performance.

I have a spare hanging under the bed, but the Roger Brown method could work with moving some things or in another location with small batteries. I'm also considering putting a battery in the bed of my truck. These sorts of things work OK, but it would be nice not to have to run a 2 AWG wire from the engine bay to the back. But OTOH, it does put the battery closer to the load. I figure the second battery in this case would be for accessories, so it wouldn't need to be a big battery.

Although a major part of the reason for me would be two batteries for a winch (that I also don't have) and back-up starting. I think under the hood is still my goal. I have a 22R-E and you probably have a 3VZ-FE, so I don't know how similar we really are, but I think if I move the ignition coil and ignitor I could squeeze in a battery there. Another option might be against the firewall on the passenger's side.

My last thought is to squeeze two smaller batteries in the same location as stock. There's some room around the battery as it is and it might be possible to shoehorn a pair of smaller Odyssey batteries in there. Maybe a pair of Odyssey 1200 or something. Not sure of their dimensions but they are smaller, right?

Anyway, no answers, I'm looking for a clean way to get a second battery in there, too. So I'll be watching.

That's interesting. It would be neat to get the Diesel filter assembly. Problem is the Gasser have a AFM. The AFM needs to stay on the body. The Vibration on the engine would probably play hell with it. maybe the AFM could be put on the Diesel filter assembly and put a 90 or a 45 elbow on the stock pipe to get it pointed where the diesel filter sits to make it work. It would add some length to the plumbing but its an idea.

I wonder if Jarco has a filter?

My problem is I am not going to run a stock size battery. I have a 150ah 115lb monster sitting in my garage. Cool thing is it is only 5 inches wide. Uncool thing is it will never fit in the engine bay at 22 inches long so I am still mounting it under the back.

old bump since i was looking for 2nd gen 4runners...

i would mount that monster under the rear cargo area above the rear axle. would need to make custom mounts.

how water "proof" is it?
