Dual Spare Tires...

There is no right or wrong to carrying 2 spares, 100% personal choice. Comes down to how upset you will be if you need a second spare and don’t have one or how upset your partner/ Kids are if you’re stuck in the vehicle for a hrs/ overnight. How remote do you go? In Africa on dailey commutes or shorter near highway trips only one spare. Longer bush trips almost always two spares. High pucker factor driving thru the bush with no spare.
Another option..I always carried tire plugs/ plug tools and pump. Also a rubber gator and a tube. I ran tubeless but have patched side wall damage with gator inside tire and inserted tube to get home.
don’t run older tires, rubber does deteriorate over time. Don’t run with low tread, been there down that. repaired four punctures in one afternoon from thorns in Malawi highlands. My sister was not impressed. Although she was even less impressed when I let them take me to jail rather then pay bull crap ? fine. Was a long day ?. We “negotiated fine “ and I was released.
Split LC rims are awesome, you can repair your own tires in the bush. But not really balacanceable (sp?) so lousy on tarmac.
I rarely have carried 2 spares in USA, but I don’t go crazy remote here.

Just about brought tears to my eyes when we drove past toyota dealers in Namibia, SA and Zimbabwe. All the brand new 70's etc on the lots.

Cheers, Steve
