Duplexer

Here is what I'm planning:

Yaesu 857D
Argent T2-301 APRS tracker
Diamond 2M / 70CM antenna
ATAS-120

I've been putting off buying a mobile setup because I haven't been able to decide between a HF radio and a APRS HAM radio setup. However, I think it would be possible to use the Argent tracker as a APRS radio, leaving the Yaesu to handle voice. My hope is that I could use the Diamond 2M antenna to handle 2M voice for the 857d as well as handling the APRS duties of the Argent. Could I use a duplexer to connect both radios to a single antenna?

Assuming so, are there any recommendations for a decent duplexer for my needs?

People seem to interchange duplexer and diplexer and often treat them as the same thing.
From a ham radio standpoint, A duplexer is used on a repeater to seperate the input and output repeater signals within the same band. This allows a repeater to hear and talk at the same time.

Diplexers are used to put 2 seperate bands down the same cable(or to 1 antennas). Most dual band radio's have diplexers built in. In the early days of dual band radio's they were external since the radios often had two RF connections on the back.

Neither of these devices will do what you want to do. (use your 2m from your 857 and APRS radio ) at the same time and on the same antenna. While its possible to put two radio on the same band down the same antennas using a combiner, the combiner is very narrow in frequency and would basically mean you pick a single freq for each radio to use and I dont think that's what you want.

Your best bet is a low profile antennas for the APRS station and then use the diamond for the Vhf side of the 857.
