Easy Spare Tire Carrier Bike Rack

I modified a bike rack to mount to the spare tire carrier. It was VERY easy and only required one small weld.

All I did was cut off the original bike rack square tubing & welded on a short piece of square tubing on a 90 degree angle to mount tightly over the round tubing on the spare tire carrier. I then drilled a hole (sort of) down through the the square tubing and the slot that was already on there from Mitsubishi. This allowed me to get a removable quick release pin through the whole thing. It wiggles a little bit and I've thought about trying to tighten it up a little, but it really isn't bad and it works just fine so I haven't touched it. Not sure how to get rid of the thumbnail, that picture is rotated incorrectly.

I like it! We have two vehicles with spares on the rear, at least one of may get a similar mount added.
Thanks for the idea.

Excelent idea!!

even though is a great idea, I prefer the hitch jack because that kind of carrier could increase the load on the back door and could cause you problem with the seal of the door, water would go though the top of the door in heavy rain
