EGR valve, OEM or is aftermarket "okay"?

Got a CEL for the EGR on our 96 SR a few weeks ago, cleared it and came back on a few days later, removed it today and it's pretty gummed up. With sensors I stick with Denso or close to OEM as possible, but seems that the EGR valve is basic enough that they are pretty hard to screw up, am I wrong?

Do some diagnostic work, it might not be the EGR valve that's bad. On my 95 there's a vacuum solenoid that actuates the valve, and there's a temp sensor that tells the ECU if the EGR is functioning properly. Either of those could be causing your CEL.
