engine/transmission paint

I'm going to rebuild an engine and transmission for my samurai this winter if I can find them close by. I've done a ton of research on rebuild kits etc, but now I'm thinking about paint.

What I'm thinking about doing is using marine topside single part polyurethane paint. I know a lot of folks use regular car paint so thought this might work.

is the spec sheet for the paint I'm considering.

What I'm thinking is to paint the block white, and paint the valve cover, timing belt cover and oil pan a dark green to sort of match my body paint. I probably wouldn't paint the transmission.

All of the engine components for the samurai are aluminum if that makes any difference here.

Also, the cast iron exhaust manifold I'll be using has a fair amount of surface rust. I'll get all that off, but what is a good hi-temp paint for these manifolds?

Go with industry standard high temp engine enamel. Anything else is going to just be an experiment on your part. Oil resistivity, heat tolerance, etc. I wouldn't for a second start using some random paint for engine rebuilding. Go to an auto parts store and buy what they have.

As far as painting iron manifolds. The only thing that lasts for longer than the first test ride is ceramic coating similar to JetHot (www.jet-hot.com). Everything else is just garbage and will just stink and look terrible until it fully burns off and you're back to iron manifolds. If it were me building a rig you're going to actually use and not just sit in a parking lot with your hood up, sandblast the manifolds, shoot the block with some high temp spray paint, fill it with oil, and run it.

thanks for the advice on paint. I found an engine and transmission, and will be going to pick it up next weekend. I'll be doing this rebuild as money allows but I should have enough to do the initial machining pretty quickly. I will of course add pics to my build thread.

I plan to paint my Sami engine grey, so one can spot leaks a little easier.

A white engine block? Hmmnnn, I'd have to sleep on that one...

The more I think about it, the more white seems like a bad idea. I do want a light color to make it easy to see if I've got any leaks going on.
