Exhaust options?

Crawled under the Rover today and for the umpteenth time thought man thats an old rusty muffler! What are some good exhaust option out there? Do I need a resonator, are there any local options out there? I can put this in myself so i'm not so worried about install, I just don't want anything to loud I have a baby coming soon, just a nice little rumble.

thanks

Nate

One of my close friends has the same body style rover, but I can't recall the motor. He went old school and put on a short glasspack, and it sounds MEAN. It's not raspy, and it's not too loud because of the catalytic converters before it, but the tone is just BEEFY.

If not that, I'd recommend a 10 or 40 series flowmaster.

I also suggest you go on youtube and type in the different kinds of mufflers along with your vehicle and see what you think sounds best.

Call around to various exhaust shops. They can take care of you, but try to get local. The chain shops can still be pricey.

A Flowmaster Delta 40 on a disco 1 has always sounded good IMO.

I have a Magnaflow on my D1. Its not restrictive, and has a lifetime warranty. It's not too loud either

Nate- I have a stock D-II muffler in great shape you can have if that helps- just pay shipping, as I went Borla on the D-II, and Magnaflow on the D-I.

I have a Flowmaster Delta 40 with no resonator on my '91 RRC. Sounds nice, no annoying interior resonance. I had the Original 40 series muffler on there for a little while, it sounded nice but was definitely louder and the interior resonance got on my nerves after a while so I switched to the Delta. It's been on there for several years now, here's a video of what it sounds like:

Note how it sounds rough after the second run through the mud pit, that was with the original tired 3.9 engine that had a way of dropping cylinders from time to time. The current 4.2 sounds and runs much smoother.

If you're interested in a Magnaflow give us a call on Monday. We always provide free shipping on Magnaflow and can compete with anybody on price for them.

I have the Borla kit on my 04 Discovery with the 4.6. It sounds real nice and is not too obnoxious, has a good low tone and will last a while being stainless steel, although I think Magnaflow is too. Easy to put on in the driveway, a sawsall helps get the old one off.

The resonator is not needed if you want to build your own exhaust. If you don't go with a cat back kit, I would go with a mild Flowmaster as said earlier, unless you want the noise, but to me, a Discovery shouldn't sound like a pickup with dual exhaust.

Magnaflow series 40. It will be a bit louder than normal. If it is too loud, then use a glass pack as a resonator. You'll like it. Otherwise, look at the series 70 magnaflow. That will work well too.
