I know there are a couple of people here that use this software. What are you thoughts on it?

I really like the software for what I use it for. I have a handheld GPS that I use most of the time. It is small portable and waterproof, so I can take it with me when I leave the truck. I try to use maps as much as possible but I record and plan trails using the GPS. I use ExpertGPS to pull up topo maps and satellite images of certain areas. I find roads and trails on these maps and then use the options to lay down tracks and also program in waypoints. Then I just send it to my GPS unit and when I get out there the trails are programed in for me to follow.

I use ExpertGPS much the same. The mapping software that came with my Lowrance Baja 540C is good for loading maps on the GPS and that is it. ExpertGPS has features that help me plan my trips and create maps of the trails. Recently the ability to toggle between topographic, NF MVUM and areal maps helped me definitively identify a number of legal trails to run this summer.

I use it and have been for several years. It is constantly being updated and it is easy to get updates, new serials#, etc.

The downside is that it uses USGS maps which are really outdated and black and white aerial photos (unk date). So you may not be getting the most updated information which could be critical in tricky navigation areas.

The plus is it can cache map and aerial photo info on your HD for offline use in the field.

You can open up waypoints to Google Earth pretty easily. You can also scan in your own maps.

You can try EasyGPS and see if it's worth your while. I use several GPS programs and ExpertGPS is one I constantly go back to.
