Global Expedition Vehicles, Inc
Just when you think everyone interested in expedition travel is on ExPo, this pops up!
Notes from their web pages:
Mike and Rene van Pelt designed and built a camper based on the Unimog. U500. Then they traveled 30,000 miles around South America in a U500-based camper.
They shipped the vehicle back from South America on a RORO ship from Ecuador to Mexico, then drove home to Missouri. This sounds like an interesting alternative for people who don't want to drive to Costa Rica or Panama to ship their vehicle south.
They liked the experience so much that they purchased three more U500s, and they are now in the business of building expedition campers for sale to the public.
The camper now on eBay is the unit they took to South America, but the truck chassis is new.
On their web site, the van Pelts say the cost to build their camper was "two Hummers and a Porsche." I take that to mean
(2 x $110,000) + $75,000 = $295,000
