I've got an extended idle switch on my cherokee. They were available on police vehicles to bump the idle to 1000 rpm to help run the AC and power accessories. It is wired to the PCM and will only raise the idle when in park or neutral. I use it whenever I use my winch, or leave my jeep sitting at idle for a while. It is the switch to the far right on my switch panel.
A friend with a TJ noticed it and is wanting to fit one in his jeep. His TJ has a manual transmission, would 1000 rpm be enough to use in place of a hand throttle? Could you wire it in with the wire that senses the air conditioning compressor running, as the TJ doesn't have the stock wires for the ext idle switch? The switch looks the same as the TJ switches. Has anyone tried this?
