Extended range fuel tank in Ford SD

I have been a little frustrated with the fuel capacity on my SD CC SB Ford - only getting about 450 miles on a tank of diesel.

Last week I drove up to Chico and had Transfer Flow install one of their (DOT approved) 46 gallon replacement fuel tanks in my F350 Diesel. They had everything ready, installed the tank, reflashed the trip computer chip, and calibrated the tank in about 2-1/2 hours. They even fed me a nice lunch while I waited. Total cost with tax, install and parts about $1200.

With the new tank I'll be getting about 750 miles per tank.

I read an article on this upgrade a while back, but it did not mention the reflash, or lunch Seriously considering same, thanks for posting. I asume you are inn Ca?

My brother in law has the same complaint with his SD. I told him to take a look at Transferflow. He actually has a high school buddy that works there.

Why did they have to reflash the computer? Can you give any more details on the electronic part of it?

We put a 68 gallon fuel tank in our company 2007 Super Duty here at work. We mostly use it for towing, so it greatly helped the range (about doubled).

I'm not sure, but I can find out. I see Titan makes a 67 gallon:

I would be interested in doing the same, but what did you get for lunch? A fellow has to look at all the aspects of these things, eh?

Well, the lunch was a one-time bonus... I arrived during the launch of a propane conversion training program, they had lunch and speakers. They herded me in the lunch room and made me welcome.

Electronics --- My Lariat '01 SD has a trip computer. In order to get it accurate they re-flashed the chip so that it knows that the tank capacity had grown from 29 gallons to 46 gallons.

They also filled the tank and calibrated it to my fuel gauge. I now have a document that says X gallons at 1/4 tank, Y at 1/2, etc. These tanks are DOT approved and the people treat you right.
