Can I continue to drive it this way without causing damage to the other cyl? The mech is saying it is easier to buy a JY eng and swap it out than to have the cyl rebuilt, is this true? He is quoting $3200 to start and money being added on from there with fluids and such. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

What type of engine? V6? Inline? If it is a inline you can either go the junk yard route and rebuild it or but a reman. What year? If it is a inline they are really easy to do it yourself or a couple of buddies. Most reman inline 6 start at 1900 for a 3 year 360000 mile warranty. Do she research and weigh your options.

One cylinder down is not a big deal, you'll lose some fuel mileage, but can be safely run this way for a long time. It will not hurt the other cylinders, just run it easy. Good luck.

Heilocoil compression test?

I put the truck up for sale and have a possible buyer but I have this nagging feeling that the mechanic I took it to is lazy and not really interested in investigating. He basically charged me am hour shop time in which he said he pulled out the plug and subsequent heilicoil and then proceeded to reheilicoil and put the compression tester on it. What nags me about this is the location of #6 and how he got a good heilicoil in there without removing A LOT OF STUFF. I have heard thru here and other forums that a Timesert is the best way to get a good repair. Is it possible that the bad compression was do to a. Ad heilicoil?
