Yes, but I don't know if it was 3 door. Seems just about every vehicle available in England is available in commercial trim. Sometimes that just means the seats are missing. I believe there's some big tax reduction if you drive a "commercial" vehicle, so if you use it for business and don't need back seats, they choose a commercial.
There's even a commercial Freelander.
They did do a DII in commercial trim as well.(and freelander)
You're right, there are good tax breaks for company car users who drive a "van" instead of a car.
example: my works car is a Mitsubushi shogun (Pajero outside of the UK) SWB "4work",
externally, it looks just like a normal shogun, inside there are no rear seats and the windows have been tinted out black. carpet is still in the back, as are the seatbelt fixings. the seat threaded nut jobbies in the bodywork have been welded up so seats can't be re-fitted.(although after 5 years you can convert back again without getting charged an arm & leg by the customs people)
on the road price was about £18500, compared to £24000 for the "car" version.
both version have the same engine (4 cyl 3.2litre diesel 165bhp), but the annual road fund licence for the van is £175, for the car it's neigh on £300
As it's my company car, i have to pay for the privelage (of being able to drive to sites to do my job to get taxed on my pay
however, if you drive a "car", it's based on the initial cost of the car, emmisions etc etc, and (don't have the amounts to hand) considerably more, about £150 per month
my shogun showing it's immense axle travel:
