My Toyota Hilux was in need for some serious TLC. I am not good at welding, but luckily I got help from a friend that has been working and owning a bodyshop for 35 Years, he is now retired. I got a Mig welder with CO2 gas and we got to work. The one who helped me said it was not necesary to remove the rust, we only had to put new plate over the damaged area and clean/brush down to bare fresh metal where we should weld. So thats what we did, I will see in a few years if this method is good enough.
This is how the car looked 6 months ago, it got worse over the summer:
It got worse as we looked under the surface:
we got to work:
The inlays was for 2wd hilux but fitted anyway:
Got some filling done, what do you call this stuff in english? Spackle??
After one layer and some rubbing
Other side:
Got some work ahead now, hunting down all spots of rust, sanding and preapring for paint. WIll be good the have a car that will be good for 10 years or so!
