fender ideas?

Howdy,

Been lurking and collecting parts for my trailer project.

Started with a 40" x 48" HF trailer I bought used off of CL
Swapped a XJ Dana 35 under it to match Jeeps bolt pattern
Threw 2 35's on aluminum wheels on it.

That's where I'm at now.

Plans,
-extend tongue approx. 1 foot.
-redeck with 2x10 PT lumber
-add another cross member (only front, rear and middle now.)
-make removable box 18"-20" sides out of 1/2" ply
-add tongue box
-add lights
-add fenders

Okay, so I've got most of this figured out. But the fenders? First off I don't see alot of fenders designed to cover a foot of tire esp. not at 35" diameter. What I have found are galvanized window wells' that are 37" diameter at 16 tall and 16" 18" and 24" wide. So these are looking pretty reasonable. On top of that at 25$ a pop seem priced right for something that'll get beat up.

What do you all think? I'm thinking I'll make some brackets for proper support. and mount them to the side of the trailer.

... I was thinking about using steel car ramps for fenders on my motorcycle trailer.
What a wonderful idea. I love things with multiple uses. It might take more work than just mounting a set of trailer fenders. They might be heavier, but you can bet they would be durable. You have a nice cradle on the top to support a spare tire.
I am not sure the radius would be a good match for bigger tires, but I like the concept.

Be sure to post if you do it. I WOULD like to see it done.

Maybe a custom set of ramps built from aluminum? Hooked and latched to the side. Hmmm...I can kind of see it. What a great idea.

I just built my fenders from scratch. If you don't have the ability, you could probably pay any local metal shop to make something up for you, shouldn't cost too much. In any case it'll look better than using window wells for fenders.

Under-truck mounted aluminum tool boxes make a good starting point for fenders sometimes; hang a mudflap fore and aft. Coverage and cargo capacity.

Got my idea for fenders on here from this one. M101 with Jeep CJ flares for extra coverage.

Here's how mine ended up. Found these fenders at local trailer supply place, 10.75" wide and got some CJ flares and now almost entirely covered. Tires in this pic are 285's but 315's fit as well with only slightly more exposure.

You could probably build yourself a matching set and get close to the design of a TJ rear flare. You would have to measure the overall length you would need using the flare and width to cover the trailer's tire. Then use a table, couple c-clamps, some angle iron, and bend what you need. Use the stock HF flare as a way of getting your dimensions correct for the trimming of the folded lips and the bends of the fender.

Here is what I did with a cheap 40x48 HF trailer and a 17 cuft yard dump bed. I'm getting ready to trim the framing of a soft tonneau cover for a F150 to fit on the tub. It is the snap version.
