how did you deal with the roof punctures. i'd assume that under certain stress the roof would open up around the cage tubes...

I can not tell you how often I've been in similar situations as those below. Snow runs always sound so fun but I have dig and manually pull myself out of way too many snow roads to make that seem fun anymore.
Some of you know my blood brother; he had an FJ40 that we got stuck in some 2 foot crusties off-camber. Every turn of the tire in any way slid the truck towards the big hill on the road edge. We ended up having to manually hi-lift pull the thing sideways for at least 6 hours to get her centered on the road again. Makes the desert roads seem tame...
