So I bought a 96 Disco, you may have seen my thread. I have done a lift and tires, now its onto setting the truck up to go on a 800-1000 mile trip. So far I have replaced: fuel pump, fuel filter, coil packs and the alternator. My list to complete now is as follows : oil change, plugs/wires, transmission oil, f/r diff oil. Is there anything else I should do before the trip? What about spare parts, tools or anything else I should have on board?

There's a good list of "critical spares" for DIs on this site. If I wasn't sitting in my car I would do the search and post the link.

Will Tillery and PT Schrams phone numbers. If you're on Dweb you'll get this ;)
Actually, take care of any and all leaks. They tend to worsen the farther you are from home.

Brake switch. If it croaks, the truck won't come out of Park.

While I do carry a brake switch, the knowledge of how to bypass it is far superior I think.
Here's how I've done it:
On the cargo door glass there are two wires attached. One is for the third brake light, the other is for the rear defroster. Jump these two together with a paperclip or piece of wire. Start truck, press Rear Defroster button, shift out of park. Remember to turn the defroster button off. Sounds crazy but it works.

-Tensioner Pulley. Replace this bearing for under $10. These fail and can have catastrophic results.
-Replace your belt and hoses. Keep the old ones as spares.
-Brass radiator plug
-White Coolant Reservoir, the black ones like to crack at the seam.
-Bushings. Yours are what, 16 years old?
-Tie Rod Ends
-Engine mounts, get the Jaguar V12 mounts. Part #JLM1010
-Fluids, TC and both diffs
-Wheel bearings, repack/replace.
Spares:
-belt
-fuel pump
-TRE's
-Wheel bearings
-check the linked thread for more.

Seems excessive. There is very little which will cause a GEMS motor to cease forward progress (unlike a 14CUX which spares are critical). If anything goes wrong, pull the plug on the MAF and it should continue to run.

Great, thanks guys. I have a 5 speed, so I don't think that brake switch is a problem. Is that correct? I am changing my front main seal tomorrow, then doing an oil change
