I spent the weekend in the mountains for fathers day. I purchased my D1 last summer and realy have not had time to do much with it. I spent some time over the past few weeks trying to put together the best way to put all of the camping equipment on the roof rack. I purchased a couple of trunks from wally world to start and they worked just fine but should be replaced with somthing more rugged. I also uttilized a soft canvas roof bag for sleeping bags pillows and sleeping mats. The combination worked well for accomidations for four. The load realy wasnt that heavy but did squat the tired stock springs of the d1. The only issue I had with it was the drive up on the grade my temp gauge climbed to just under over heat. As soon as I was back on flat it went back to just below mid point. I may replace all hoses and flush the system and see if it helps out. I forgot how much of a dog they are with a little load so I also think the re gear should be done when I replace springs. My last rig I used OME springs but I think I am going to give terra firma sport hd kit a try. I believe I am going to stick to 245 tires, that should be plenty for my desert and mountain outings. I also noticed that when I changed my plugs and wires that It stumbles a bit with the factory gap so I may pull them and regap to 40. I think I would also like to add a national luna fridge that way my wife dosnt pack enough food for a week for a few nights out. she is always sure we are going to freeze and starve to death and packs accordingly. I would have some beutiful pictures of the sawtooth forrest south of Twin falls but the big nikon was packed with a dead battery and the teenagers have decided to remove all charging apparatus to thier cars. over all she did just fine and now I have some repair and kitting goals to work on.
