I just bought a mechanic special 95 montero sr for 800

Just replaced the followings
Plugs n wires
Thermostat
A/t fluid n filter
Oil n filter
Air cleaner
Serpentine belts
Shocks

I have a fuel leak right behind the intake manifold and a dead tachometer it would work when it wants to

Has any of u guys experience the problems above with the fuel leak and tach
I've tried tapping and wiggling on the ignition control module and cluster to no improvement.

I have half a tank of 87 octane left and its just not giving all its power.

Do you guys expierence the same with 87 octane?

95 sr

I would put first priority on fixing the fuel leak. First it can catch fire and cause big problems. Second, you probably have low fuel pressure to the injectors because of it, which may or may not explain the lack of power. Fix that and go from there. The tach problem is common as these age, but I cant recall the fix for it. I believe the problem is in the instrument cluster though.

So today i replace a worn out o ring on the feed line

Tach is still dead as well as lack n power or atleast i dont think im feeling the 200 ponies
Atleast its not leaking no more

Im gonna fill up with 91 octane on the next time to see if those 200 ponies comes alive

How do you adjust the kick down cable thats connected to the throttle valve?

Where do i find info on the type of gear oil for diff and transfer case?

Montero

go to mitsubishilinks.com

You should be able to download the FSM from there.

With my old 95 I noticed very little seat of the pants difference between 92 and 89 octane, but the engine will run optimally on 92.

thanks
it seems so that the engine was either replace or rebuilt because it is super clean around it and no blow by gas

previous owner describe it as hesitating replace plugs but did not change ignition wires which was the main cause, it had a 18k ohms reading.

i hope the timing belt and components were recently done too

Can someone please measure their kickdown cable in wot and close throttle on their montero sr

Im having difficulties downloading fsm

My sr still runs crappy even with 91 octane. i've replace the fuel filter and have a new catalytic converter sitting here waiting for daylight to rise. it starts right up and idles fine but lacks acceleration, power, and stealing my fuel money like crazy. my civic 1.6L has better power than the montero. no check engine light on. it also lacks power while under load when at a slight incline, can't even maintain speed. the AT dash light is the last to turn off when i start up the car. the transmission when shifting does act weird but it could be due to sensors like a tps which i've replace with a junk yard one with no performance difference. i set up the tps by placing a .65mm on the sts and turning the tps till no continuity between pin 2 and 4 on tps. tps connection test out fine with 5v power in. i've develop a heavy foot for this montero because it's so slow.

things i haven't replace
AT transmission
o2 sensor
ignition coils
ignition control module ( i doubt its this)
fuel pump/ fuel pressure reg.
mass air flow sensor
vehicle speed sensor
knock sensor
exhaust muffler

Kind of an apples and oranges comparison, but I had an '87 comaro v6 5 speed that had similar symptoms and replacing the catalytic converter solved the problem...hth

I thought it was a bad cat because the smog check results indicated a bad one so i order a walker ca cat and gutted the one on the car but it didnot help.

I thought of a couple of possibilities.

While not a montero, I had a jetta that when the egr valve lost the inner diaphram, the car lost 80% power.

~or~

Have you done a compression/ leakdown test.

Bad rings or valves can cause a loss of compression=low power.

I replace egr prior to smog. I thought i found the problem when i opened up the ecu and found a leaking capacitor. Replace that cap and no improvement. I did however disconnected the throttle valve cable and felt better shifting as well as little more power but nothing near what i think should be. Ive also test the maf and it seems to passed voltage test but couldnt do a Hz signal test and also stall when more than half of airflow is restricted. I lost my compression gauge so couldnt do one. I think its a tranny problem. This is the first car that ive own thats rated over 200 ponies but is nothing near what my 1.5L Mirage can do.

what is the proper way to check resistance on the coils?

currently, i have no continuity on primary and secondary, however i have about 21k ohms on the two secondary post per coil.

are my coils shot?

still not right yet.
i've replace all 3 ignition coil, fuel pump, maf sensor, plenum gasket.
it starts right up but lack power unless wot. o2 sensor is working fine. new egr valve
along with a clear passage. i have to floor it to get it pass 55mph. mpg is like 10mpg city with 91 octane. right bank cylinder compressions are 150, 140, 150

input needed

sounds like a tranny. does it rev ok when in neutral or park? or is it still sluggish? if it revs good in park, then i lean toward a bad trans as a whole, or bad torque converter.

Howah

It rev up kinda slow in park and neutral. The stall speed on all gears is at 1750 rpm which i think is kind of low. Runs stronger when in reverse. throttle valve cable doesnt affect much when change but does when unhook. Tranny does shift smooth through all gears. Ever since i bought it, it has run well two times only and both of them were at night.

The things i've replace so far

Tranny fluid and filter
Engine oil and filter x2
Egr valve
Tps
Idle speed control motor
Fuel pump and filter
Spark plugs and wires
Ignition coils
Air filter
Plenum gasket
Vacuum lines
Maf sensor
Engine coolant sensor
Gutted cat converter
Left side cam gears are on the mark with timing but haven't check the rest.
