FJ60 Roof Rack Build

Its time for a new roof rack and I thought I'd start here and get some good ideas on what you guys would like to see in a roof rack for a FJ60.

I'm starting with 1 1/4" round steel tube 1/16" wall. That's becouse I have a radius die for it.

I like mounting 4 round Hellas at the front and two smaller lights at the rear. I think a bar in front of the lights to protect them is good but not to sure about the mesh I've seen.

I'm not so sure about the gas can option I see on some racks becouse it's not that far between gas stations anymore.

What do you think??

Roof Rack Build

Thanks, but that roof rack has to go, I want to build another one. Something that says Mutual of Ohmaha's Marlin Perkins.

After making my uber crazy rack for the Tacoma - I am sold on a full floor and Line X. You can see in the reflection of the windscreen that the floor is the diamond pattern - making it VERY easy to lash gear ANYWHERE and the Line X helps hold it in place. The Line X also makes climbing around easy in muddy, rainy, and snowy conditions. I have seen some over built racks - mine included. If you are not planning on using it as roof mounted slider, Thinner tube, less weight, plenty of handles, and spots for lights and tools will make the rack not only cool, but highly functional - and not unnecessarily top heavy.) If I can ever find a nice FJ80 - I am going to copy the INTI light / gas can design with features of my Tacoma rack (floor and LINE X)

I would do a full length rack that is low profile with a bar that will come over the top of front mounted lights, full expanded metal floor and bedliner.

Sorry for the Paint drawing

FJ60 Roof rack

Nice drawing, I'm thinking of making the tubes that run left to right the same curve as the roof, but still keep the floor of the rack flat.

I used 3/4 EMT (electrical conduit) for the perimeter and 1/2 rigid conduit (electrical conduit) for the cross bars into full gutter mounts. Expanded metal with 1 1/4" edging around the expanded metal and welded to the perimeter tubing. End results very light and very strong.
