Hey flatbed owners! I'm starting to plan out getting a new truck, and part of that planning is setting it up for light overlanding. I'm considering a flatbed, in no small part because of seeing Ronny Dahl's rig on YouTube, as well as other usefulness outside of camping, but I have one main question: assuming you don't have a flatbed camper, how do you secure your stuff from theft? Obviously a ratchet strap will secure your stuff from flying away, but won't keep even the most casual thief with a small knife out - and all the stuff would be in plain sight asking to be stolen, no?
With my current truck, with a regular bed, I have a hard tonneau cover. Somewhat secure, but critically keeps everything out of sight, out of mind. I can have the bed fully loaded for camping, but have no concerns about parking to pickup groceries or grabbing a sit-down meal on the way to/from the trail. Is that sort of thing possible with a flatbed loaded for camping?
