Florida Week of rivers

Well guys I forgot to post this up. I am leaving for Milton Florida on the 28th. The paddling club I run is having the annual week of rivers trip. Basically we are heading to an outfitter called Adventures Unlimited. We will "base camp" there for the week. Everyday we will hit a different local water way for 7 days. We leave to come home on Oct. 6th.

We will be paddling 14 miles on Cold Water Creek,10 miles on the Blackwater River, 8 miles on Juniper Creek, another 12 miles on the Blackwater River, 8.5 miles on Turkey Creek, 5 miles on Boiling Creek, and 9.5 miles on Shoal/ Yellow rivers. THis will be a total of 67 miles in 7 days.

Each of these trips are "day" paddles. Most are crystal clear water with sugar sand shorelines. Turkey and Boiling creek runs take you through Eglin AFB. You actually have to get permits and attend a 20 minute video on why you do not pick up duds since you go through a section of the bombing range LOL!

My dad is coming with me and it will be the first multi day trip we have actually taken together since we started the shop 15 years ago. I am looking forward to spending time with him but since he is recovering from fully torn rotator cuff surgery, He will be dead weight in my canoe for 67 miles. I'm tired just thinking about it. And no I will not be fanning and feeding grapes to him! LOL.

We will be living large this trip in his 34' RV which will be intersting. All he can think about is trying out his new satelite reciver and I cringe at the thought of watching any TV that week. Oh well, at least I'l be on the river every day!

There are a total of 11 people going. It is a dramatic drop in attendence from last years # of 47 paddlers. It will be alot easier to manage logistics and alot more relaxing overall which I'm looking forward to. I'll post pics when we get back.

Have a great trip, sounds like fun. My wife and I just moved from Milton about six months ago. I use to poke around the Eglin area all the time. When you are over there, take a couple of hours and pop over the NAS Pansacola and check out Fort Barrancas. Nothing fourwheel related but a cool sidestep through history. http://andy_bennett.home.mindspring.com/barr1.html

Man I miss that area.

well I just got back from the week of rivers trip. All in all everyone had a great time. I will try and get some pick up this week. Unfortunetly I got food poisoning and ended up in the hospital. I am still recovering and havebeen having a tuff time with my stomach. I am going to follow up with my local doc for get a #2 sample to see what virus has got ahold of me cause I can't kick it. I have been on antibiotics since last wednesday with marginal improvement. I did get 4 days paddling in and the 3 rivers I missed I had already done so no biggie.
