Fly Fishing the Yakima River

It was a great and cold day on the river. It has been a tradition every time i make the trip back home to fly fish the Yakima river (WA). Red's Fly Fishing river guides are top notch. My father also invited one of his long time business friends and his daughter. We outfitted two Reds draft boats and headed down the river.

My Father and the Famous Joe the hunter. Joe is one of the best of many great guides at Reds. Joe always finds the fish and always has great stories to tell along the way.

It was very cold and a little windy. The fish made us work to land them. We landed between my father and I two White Fish and 5 Rainbow Trout. The other boat came up with nothing:(. Our pole eyes kept freezing...

I had the opportunity to land the small and big fish of the day in the back of the boat.

Don't you live in Provo? I hope you take advantage of the Provo river... Every time I go up there I try to bring my flyfishing stuff.

When I lived in salt lake I would go up to where the river comes out of the Jordanelle dam and fish that area. That was when I was in high school in 1999-2001. I went up there this summer a few times during the green drake hatch and had a blast, caught some huge healthy browns but there were SOOOO many people there. 10 Years ago I would pick a spot and fish it for a while and rarely see anyone else, especilly on a weekday. I have heard that wooly buggers do pretty well in the winters on the provo river, so hopefully I can get up there and test that theory out.

That river looks really fun though, I really want to go up to the PNW and log some good flyfishing time.
