1996 Land Rover Discovery with 5-speed manual transmission and Baja roof rack. 110K miles.
I have owned this truck for one year. It runs and drives excellently. Only 110,000 miles.
It has passed the state inspection and emissions test within the last month. I have the clear Texas title.
This truck starts up immediately every time and I would not hesitate to take it anywhere. I have driven it with my family cross-country from Texas to Utah and back.
The manual transmission works great, including all the high and low gears. This is the first-generation Discovery which includes the differential lock for serious off-road work. I am not an off-road hobbyist, but I did take it off-road in Moab Utah while on a family vacation trip. It performed wonderfully. . . climbed right up the rocks with no issue. It also has a trailer hitch receiver with removable ball.
The history of the truck (as I understand from Car Fax) is.
The first owner was a lady in California. The car immediately moved to Utah, where it lived for 5 years or so. Then it moved to Texas for the remaining time.
I bought this Rover specifically because it had the manual transmission. These manual transmission Discoveries are rare and pretty hard to find. My intention was to swap my Mercedes diesel engine into the Rover. But. . . this Rover's engine only has 110K miles on it, and it runs very smooth, so I just couldn't bring myself to pull it out. Anyway, I've been driving it as my daily driver over the last year. I had a "fender bender" and replaced/painted the front-right fender.
I added the Baja roof rack (model BR-LRD-0) this summer, and the ladder. This roof rack has come in very handy for hauling large loads. . . even 4x8 sheets of plywood will fit up there!
The good:
Sears Platinum DieHard (the best battery they make) - 1 year old
I rebuilt the steering gearbox with new seals (complete tear-down)
New water pump and coolant
New steering dampener shock
New Bilstein shocks
New valve cover gaskets
New valley pan gasket (under the intake manifold)
New O2 sensors (in front of the catalytic converters)
I replaced all the drivetrain fluids with Redline brand oils. Front differential, rear differential, manual transmission, transfer case, and front axle swivel housings.
The cloth seats are in decent condition. No tears.
Air conditioner works great
New TRW brand master brake cylinder
New spark plugs and wires
New air filter
The bad:
Cooper Discoverer M+S tires - these are pretty old, but still have tread life on them.
Cosmetic issues:
The two front fog lights (on the bumper) work, however one of the lenses is cracked.
The front bumper brush guard is kind of crusty and rusty. . . I had it painted 6 months ago, but the paint is not holding up very well.
Previous owner had dented the rear bumper.
The headliner is loose and sags here-and-there.
The plastic surround for the dash instrument cluster is cracked and is loose.
The paint on the hood and roof is faded/oxidized
I won't deal with third-parties, long distance deals/shipping, brokers, scammers, or financing. Cash only.
