Okay it's bad enough there are a bunch of great rigs we can't buy in the U.S., but to have U.S. rigs offered with better options abroad (see this thread and the recent Jeep J8 debut) is just plain wrong.

Rant complete...

Mark thanks for the info. I sent you a PM awhile back regarding your Octamog camper box. If it's still in your inbox take a peak. Thanks.

Not enough horsepower or torque for today's American diesel wars... I love my diesel truck (2003 Dodge 2500 4x4 Cummins) but I don't really need all of that power. I think a truck with the inline 4 would do quite well. Would get better daily driving mileage. Probably wouldn't cost as much as the bigger diesel motors as an option. Where do I sign up? Oh yeah, Brazil!

The American diesel wars are over. The oil companies won!

I think the 4 cylinder Cummins would have been a GREAT engine for light trucks like the domestic 3/4 ton market. There is a pretty big following for those engines and conversions with them. There is a board called 4btswaps that deals with them a lot. Those little diesels are still pretty big ( 700+ lbs ) but I think they would make a great conversion. I have an old 70s ford that is begging for the conversion once the FE 390 I build for it dies....it just won't! Those 4 cylinder Cummins are returning high 20s for mileage in full size trucks. They can also be pumped up like any diesel these days. A 100 hp per liter in a turbo charged inter-cooled diesel isn't that hard to do.....

A 4 liter diesel is what the light truck market really needs. Some of the big 3 are going to smaller diesel engines now which makes me happier. Most of the 6+ liter diesels are overkill for the rest of the drivetrain.

A 3 liter diesel would be great for the small truck and jeep market also.

Please Please Please.

The 3.9L in the Brazilian Ford has more in common with ISB5.9 than the 4BT. It is a commonrail 4 valve motor very much like the late model 5.9's in newer Dodges, and is computer controlled. They are rated to 170hp. for the medium duty segment. The 200 hp rating of the Brazilian motor is the highest rating I've seen on this motor to date and the highest redline (2900 rpm). I think 300hp is not out of the question for these motors -- I'm on a personal quest to find out...
