After breakfast this morning my wife and I decided to go for a little drive. We headed west into California on State Route 88 from Hope Valley toward Carson Pass. Turned south at Red Lake. Google Maps calls this Forestdale Road. My USGS topo calls it Blue Lakes Road. I've always thought of it as the back way into Blue Lakes.
These pictures were taken at the Forestdale Divide. This is in the Eldorado National Forest, about three miles due south of Red Lake. I was standing inside the boundary of the Mokelumne Wilderness at about 9,000 feet elevation. Conveniently, a Toyota truck came up the road to give a sense of scale.
I had parked my truck at the top of the divide, behind a Nissan. It seemed to be silver truck day in the backcountry.
A short while later we were walking the dog at the Blue Lakes campgrounds, then back onto the highway for burgers at the Hope Valley Resort Cafe. Got back home in time for a late afternoon nap.
Man, I love living close to the backcountry.
