Found a Montero couldn't pass it up.

Couple days ago I ran across a 1999 montero locally. My wife and I have been looking for a 4runner but have always wanted to check out the montero. Well I took it for a test drive yesterday and had to have it. This car is great and I can see my family having many future adventures in it. Only plans I have for it right now, some rock sliders and a nice large aluminum roof rack, mounting my old winch in the stock bumper, dual battery, and mounting my fridge in the back. Glad to be part of the montero family. If there are any good montero forums that I need to join please let me know .

Looks good! Someone already removed the running boards for you too!
Yep

The running boards are sitting in my back yard right now. Is there any point in trying to sell them or should I just toss them?

I went to order weathertech floormats and found out that they aren't made for the 99. Are there any other floor mats that cover everything like the weather tech floor liner?

If you get any weld on sliders, you may as well toss the stocks. They may only be useful for resale, but you would have to cut off your sliders to reinstall.

Not sure about any other montero specific floor mats. The $20 Goodyear 4 pc rubber floor mats from Costco fit mine pretty well and offer good protection.

If you have no use of the running board. Can I get the left sides garnish? Someone hit my 2.5 while parked on a street. :(

Nice find!
As for forums, 4x4wire is sort of the mother-load of Montero info, but it's run by the world's worst search engine, and all the really good threads have had their photos deleted due to various server upgrades over the decades. There's also a lot of good info here on ExPo, and many of the more knowledgable guys on 4wire are here as well, and are extremely helpful.

How are you going to mount a winch to the stock bumper? It certainly isn't rated for it!

Looks like a nice pickup and paint looks good too (not that it matters much if its going offroad lol). Good luck on the build!

The guy I bought the car from said he saw some people mount the winch inside the bumper. I haven't really looked into it yet, but I like having a winch when I go on long trips without other vehicles. Self recovery is very important.

If I can't find a want to mount it then I will probably have a friend build a custom bumper for the front so I can mount the winch.

Was this the one that popped up in the classified section? Good buy if so, I was ready to buy a plane ticket and go pick it up if you didn't buy it.

It was. The guy lived 20 min from me so I went and looked at it during lunch one day and then fell in love. Glad I didn't wait. You could have taken them from right under me. There have been a couple monteros here recently but none with lockers which was a must.
