Frame rust questions

So, what is the deal on the Toyota frames that are being replaced under warranty for rust ? Is it the Tacoma's or the Tundra's ? Asking because i took a cruise through the Toyota dealer yesterday & saw 7 brand spanking new frames & 8 rusted out frames behind the shop. When i asked, no one wanted to comment at all on this matter. Asking because we are considering a Tacoma for the wife at some point.

Are the Tacoma frames fully boxed from front to rear, or are they partially boxed ? The old rusted out ones i saw were only partially boxed.

If I recall correctly, the issue impacted both the Tacoma and the Tundra though the Tacoma has gotten much more publicity for it.

Tacoma frames are partially boxed. They are fully boxed from the engine compartment back to about 1/4 the length of the cab. The rest is open channel.

The first gen tacoma's are boxed from the front to the rear, right above the rear axle area. Then it is C channel out the rear. I had frame plates on mine for the rear to stiffen it up.

As much as I love my Tacoma I wouldnt want to own one out east where they use Salt on the ice. If you live out west where we use Dirt on the roads you have nothing to worry about. Not sure if you live by the Ocean out west but I saw nothing but Tacomas when I visited the Lost Coast in California.
