Free and legal copy of Garmin Mapsource

Anybody have any ideas or know how to get the "GPS" tab or its features back for my GPSV I use with a laptop?

I thought I could upgrade my older version to this new version since my copy is almost 4 years old. Now I can't live track at all. Normally there is a tab marked "GPS" On the left column and you hit "start tracking" under that tab. It would show speed, direction etc. Map would put your current location on it.

This version does not have the GPS tab at all. I can upload and down load maps, waypoints so I know it talks to it so it is not a communications issue. Used my existing codes that the link said I could use.

The GPS tab on mine disappeared so I went to the garmin site and installed all the program updates....that worked.

ie the USB software et al

There's also another program there specifically designed for autorouting...

which is also free, but i forget the name right now

A while back Garmin removed the live tracking function from mapsource and released a new free program called nRoute for live tracking. If you upgraded Mapsource and lost this function, just download the nRoute program from the Garmin Website and you'll be good to go again.

Ohhhhhh thats just delux! :wings:

Now I will have to go somewhere just to try this out. That's MUCH nicer then the old stuff. Playing with this on the Desktop it has some really nice features. Time to actually load it on the Laptop LOL .

Hmmmm I think I need to mount My Laptops today.

Yep, works great. Here's a shot of mine running nRoute on a recent night trail run. :wings:

If you want more detailed Topo maps you can also use National Geographic State Topo. Thier software also will show your current position and dropped bread crumbs track you have taken. Enjoy.

nRoute

yep thats the one
It is a totally separate program able to run independently.

I left the older Mapsource on the Laptop since it is less of a memory hog. The new version likes to stall the computer when you make connection to the GPS. My Laptop is an old beater with only 512k of ram on Win2000 Pro. Keep it lean as possible. The version is apparently written specifically for my GPSV or so it seem as it functions a lot better with it.

Sweet! I really like the Night feature mode. Big Improvement on the eyes with night vision.

Now I need to get the ToPo maps or download Google Earth.

Both my Map76CSx and the nRoute on the laptop auto-switch between day and night displays at sunset or sunrise. Pretty cool. :wings:
